Servus and hello!
After a week of non-activity here I'd like to promote a traditional restaurant in the city center of Bamberg (which is not the Schlenkerla). I'm talking about the eatery Zum Sternla that is located in the Lange Straße 46 and still within a stone's throw of the usual tourist walkabouts. So if you are willing to spend an extra march of three minutes from the Gabelmann you will be rewarded with good and solid meals. Prices are under 11€ and the restaurant offers extra dishes for the little ones which cost around 5€.
The menu in the Sternla is written in Franconian dialect with standard German additions. Don't be put off by it and just ask one of the lovely waitresses for a translation, they will help you out.
Opening hours:
Mon – Sun: 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.
(reservations recommended on weekends)

Carnival / Fasching
Helau and hello!
Last weekend carnival (here also called Fasching) took over the streets and squares of Franconia. Public spaces were filled with clowns, cowboys and human carrots. Everybody who enjoys a little drink or humans in disguise will be delighted by the so called fifth season.
Usually a Faschingsumzug (carnival parade) is presented by every community and consists of several floats. Although we might not have the fanciest floats like Cologne or Mainz the people's exuberance is just as great as elsewhere.
The parade in Memmelsdorf near Bamberg is legendary. This year 67 floats joined in there and made it one of the biggest parades in the region. Every year the parade is on sunday before Rose Monday. To get a small impression take a look at some pictures and you know what I mean:
The local newspaper Fränkischer Tag posted a picture gallery of the parade in Bamberg on March 4th 2014. click here
See you next week.
Best regards
